What we welcome

We consider original essays and reported or explanatory pieces about traditions, hospitality, dress, domestic life and cultural change. Strong contributions make a focused point, explain why it matters and avoid treating a whole region or community as though it were uniform.

Make the pitch specific

Include a working title, a short summary of the central idea, the category it best fits and a note on what readers will understand after reading. Mention the relevant places or traditions and explain how the piece will handle differences in practice.

Before you send

We are not looking for generic lifestyle advice, promotional copy or claims that cannot be checked. Tell us whether the proposal has been published or offered elsewhere. Proposals are sent through the Contact page using the editorial question option.
